Football CHEER
Coach: Tammy Wilson
Assistant Coach: Amy Laster
Two squads make up the GHS Football Cheer program — a varsity and a freshman squad. Varsity cheerleaders attend every home and away game, rallying fans from the sidelines. The freshman squad cheers at 9th grade home and away games on Monday nights. The football cheer season lasts from August to early November.
In addition to performing cheers and stunts at games, cheerleaders are active during Homecoming Week, selling spirit items such as ribbons, temporary tattoos, and T-shirts, as well as greeting kids at the elementary schools. During Pink Out Week, they host a mini cheer camp with kids in K-5 and cheer with them during the first quarter of the game.
Each summer we attend a four-day cheer camp on a major college campus.
Tryouts for football cheerleading are held each February. Girls must be able to cheer, dance, and perform a toe touch. Members continue to develop stunting and tumbling skills throughout the year. Our practices are held daily in the Grenada Armory.
Starting this year, the squad will begin competition cheer, consisting of select members from the current squad. The competition squad will compete with other high schools in a game-day routine consisting of band dance, sideline, and a cheer.
