Jazz Band

Grenada has a rich jazz program. Students can begin exploring this genre by joining the Middle School Jazz Band where they are introduced to the ideas of jazz and swing.

In high school, students can choose to audition for two jazz ensembles. Jazz 2 is used as a place for young students to further hone their craft. They are introduced to more musical styles such as rock, Latin, and pop. Students also begin exploring the processes of improvisation. Jazz 1 features the top students in the band program. Here the students begin playing more technically complex charts and further develop their improvisational skills. This group performs at many events and functions throughout the community. Both groups compete in local jazz music festivals with groups from other schools in the area.
