Basketball (Boys)

Coach: Joey CooleyAsst. Coach: Robert Sapp

For the past nine years, Coach Joey Cooley has been building the GHS Boys Basketball into a consistently competitive program.

Coach Cooley says the team is about more than what happens on the court. He has built a program to which former players return to work and mentor the current players. He promotes buy-in from players, who hold each other responsible for the team’s success. They’ve kept their academic game at a high level as well. Cooley was proud that three of his seniors graduated with honors in 2021 and sees a bright future for these young players.

Practice for the boys basketball squad is held fourth block during the school year. From November to February, the team plays roughly 22-24 games in both varsity and junior varsity squads. The JV team is typically made up of younger players, though some ambitious freshmen and sophomores may earn a spot on the varsity team.

The robust Summer League during the month of June gives players a chance to work on their game during the off-season. Out of 8-9 dates, both home and away, summer players get the opportunity to play roughly 20 games during the summer.
