Basketball (Boys)

Coach: Joey Cooley

For the past seven years, Coach Joey Cooley has been building the GHS Boys Basketball into a consistently competitive program. Jumping up to 6A classification last year provided great challenges, but the team competed hard night in and night out, hanging with the best players in the state.

Coach Cooley says the team is about more than what happens on the court. He has built a program to which former players return to work and mentor the current players. He promotes buy-in from players, who hold each other responsible for the team’s success. They’ve kept their academic game at a high level as well. Cooley was proud that three of his seniors graduated with honors in 2021 and sees a bright future for these young players.

Practice for the boys basketball squad is held fourth block during the school year. From November to February, the team plays roughly 22-24 games in both varsity and junior varsity squads. The JV team is typically made up of younger players, though some ambitious freshmen and sophomores may earn a spot on the varsity team.

The robust Summer League during the month of June gives players a chance to work on their game during the off-season. Out of 8-9 dates, both home and away, summer players get the opportunity to play roughly 20 games during the summer.
